Maslenitsa in Berlin Friedrichsfelde
A family celebration to bid farewell to winter
with blini and other Eastern European treats
March 1, 2025

Maslenitsa is a traditional Eastern European holiday celebrated during the week before the start of Lent. This festival symbolizes bidding farewell to winter, anticipating warmth, the spring renewal of nature, and hope for a bountiful harvest. The main symbol of the holiday is blini, which represent the sun.

This year, we held the city Maslenitsa celebration for the second time on Heinrich-Dathe Platz. Over 700 people registered for the event. Thank you to everyone who came to eat blini, have fun, dance, and craft straw dolls.

It brings us great joy to see that so many people look forward to and attend this celebration. We are happy that together with you we can bring the Friedrichsfelde neighborhood — a place dear to many of us — to life with interesting events.

A huge thank you to our partners, whose numbers grew significantly this year. Thanks to you, Maslenitsa took place for the second time. Many thanks to all the volunteers and those who helped prepare the blini (we made more than 800!) and other treats — we couldn't have done it without you. Together, we not only fed hundreds of people blini, but we also danced Zumba and Bachata, painted in the Khokhloma style, made pins, created animated films, repaired bicycles, and tried many other activities.

We will continue to organize neighborhood events and festivals — follow the news on our social media channels!
