All of these statements refer to a single film — "Battleship Potemkin" by Sergei Eisenstein.
Created in the Soviet Union one hundred years ago, in 1925, for the 20th anniversary of the first Russian revolution, the film tells the story of a mutiny by the crew of the battleship Potemkin. The director drew on real events but used history merely as inspiration, without striving for documentary accuracy, and at times, strongly distorting the facts.
This film is simultaneously called "one of the best in the history of cinema" and an example of an ideological tool created at the behest of the state.
How can a film be both propaganda and great art at the same time?
Why, a hundred years later, is this film still mandatory viewing for all students of cinematography?
How did this picture become a universal language of emotions, where every detail, every editing transition carries an idea—and still makes the viewer hold their breath?

After the screening, an engaging discussion took place with a representative of the film industry — a director, screenwriter, and producer. Participants explored why this film continues to move audiences and remains one of the key works in the history of world cinema.
