On November 8th, a vibrant meeting titled "Russlanddeutsche in Lichtenberg: Dialog, Begegnung & Quiz" (Russian Germans in Lichtenberg: Dialogue, Encounter & Quiz) took place in the cozy Bodo Uhse Library, bringing together about 40 participants from different generations of Russian Germans.
In the first part of the event, participants got to know each other, shared their family stories, talked about how long they have lived in Germany, and discussed what it means to be a Russian German today. Through short games and discussions, participants addressed topics of family memory, identity, language, and cultural traditions. A game of Bingo sparked particular interest, during which participants discussed themes of integration, cultural preservation, and dual identity, and also recalled famous Russian Germans who have achieved success in Germany. The Bingo winners — Maria Fisher, Viktor Krushinsky, and Maria Kulikova — received small prizes for their quick interaction and accurate answers.
The second part featured a team quiz consisting of five thematic blocks dedicated to the history, culture, and contemporary life of Russian Germans. The atmosphere was genuinely spirited and warm. Among the most notable questions were those about the founders of the rock band Nickelback and The Simpsons, the origin of one of the founders of the White Rose resistance group, Alexander Schmorell, the German roots of Pamela Anderson, the legendary Sarepta mustard, and the traditional costume of Russian Germans.
The winners were:
🥉 3rd place — Kichle
🥈 2nd place — Just a Team
🥇 1st place — Einfach die Besten
The winning teams received commemorative prizes from the organizers. All participants also received brochures with step-by-step instructions for researching their Russian German family history and can now continue this work on their own.
In a separate segment, the organizers and partners — WIR.DE, Riwwel gUG, and the youth club "Warum бы и nicht Berlin" — presented their initiatives, spoke about current projects, and invited everyone to participate in future events. The highlights of the meeting were the aromatic Krebbel (traditional Russian German pancakes/fritters) during the coffee break, a prize raffle, and discussions about new ideas and plans for 2026.
