SCIENCE SLAM
An evening event where scientists present their research in an informal atmosphere. Each speaker has just ten minutes to explain their scientific project in a clear and engaging way. This time, we invite you to discuss various forms of discrimination. Can drones, school textbooks, and digital monopolies infringe on people's rights? Let's talk about it at Science Slam

Five years ago, a self-driving car struck and killed a pedestrian for the first time. Since then, debates on how to make autonomous transportation safe and ethical have not subsided. Countries and international organizations are attempting to regulate their development. Development companies are creating ethical codes. Engineers are trying to design ethically sound algorithms. Yet all these efforts remain at the level of discussion and debate.

What else is needed to make self-driving cars socially acceptable? What expertise is lacking to make ethical discussions effective? We will explore these questions at Science Slam with technology researcher Liliya Zemnukhova.

"Digital Certificates and the Trade of Trust"

The internet has become so deeply embedded in our lives that it is now quite difficult to say what we do without using the web. However, this raises the question of trust: why does our browser or mobile app trust certain websites? What processes lie behind this, and can we intervene in them? How can we reduce the risk of falling victim to the whims of scammers or even entire states?

Let's talk about this with information security systems architect Egor Ivanov.

The topic of migration has remained relevant in research circles for many years: new, previously unexplored aspects that play an important role in the lives of newcomers are regularly identified. For example, the influence of educational institutions and teachers on foreign-born students. Can a teacher always contribute to the harmonious inclusion of children with migration experience into the host society? Are there right and wrong approaches to this process?

Sociologist Igor Mikheev studies the sociocultural integration of children from families with migration experience. At Science Slam, he will answer questions about what models of migrant inclusion contemporary sociology works with, what the difference is between assimilation and integration, and where the happiest migrants live.
